Our Process
We photograph artwork using our 240-megapixel full-frame camera system, paired with the sharpest lens available on the market for this purpose (Sony A7r4, Sony 85mm f1.4).
The camera is precision-aligned to the artwork using a laser and a geared tripod head, guaranteeing edge-to-edge sharpness and eliminating distortion.
Our lighting system is designed to emit a scientifically correct full light spectrum. This gives us a clean, neutral starting point. We adapt our lighting to complement the artwork medium and artist preference on texture interpretation.
For reflective surfaces such as varnish, glass or gloss-finish art media, we use polarised lighting techniques to remove unwanted glare.
Colour Matching & Post-production
Our lighting system is designed to emit a scientifically correct full light spectrum, giving us a clean and reliable base.
Each artwork is captured with a 140 patch colour panel, allowing us to accurately measure colour and brightness across the image.
We use this data to build custom colour profiles bespoke to the capture environment. We process colour data in Capture One, the only software suite on the market executing comprehensive colour data processing to deliver true-to-life colour accuracy.
If requested, we can also carry out light retouching in Photoshop.

Texture Reproduction
We control how texture is captured through lighting. We can emphasise surface topography by using asymmetrical lighting, making textured artworks appear three dimensional.
Alternatively we can use completely flat, even lighting to remove shadows and texture entirely, giving a smooth, uniform look. This gives you full control over how the artwork texture is interpreted.
We can additionally eliminate glare from gloss-finish art media if desired with polarisation techniques.
On Location Fine Art Capture
We offer fine art capture sessions both from our premises in Aberfoyle, or onsite at your studio.
For onsite art capture sessions to be feasible, we kindly ask that the below requirements be fulfilled:

Giclée Prints
We offer giclée printing in-house. Our wide format Canon printer uses 12 pigment technology to deliver exceptional definition, tonal range and colour accuracy.
Each print is carefully colour matched, with bespoke paper profiles created to ensure a faithful and consistent reproduction of the original work.
Our standard paper for fine art reproduction is PermaJet Museum Heritage 310. This is an acid free, subtly textured stock which complements fine art while providing long term archival stability without colour degradation.
